Le Ciel est rouge sur Laramie is the 4th western comic of the collection orchestrated by Hermann et Greg and depicted the adventures of Red Dust, an iconic cowboy willing to fight against the vicious Dobbs brothers, accused of having killed dozen of innocent victims. The scenario is performed in the spectacular and breath-taking wild American West of the 19th century, sceneries mastering a colourful cast of characters and showcasing an off-the-record human being. Indeed, the West is become the scene of much more than a few rounds between easy-to-capture dreams, as grey touches descend to paint a no Dark-or-Light world.
Firstly, human being dreams seem to fight each other: dreams of nasty brothers, dreams of honest farmers, dreams of fair cowboys... All those players would like to conquer the impossible-to-reach amazing American West and to meet the promise of a dream life... The universal reflection beyond that ideal is the following: does the border between the Good and the Bad exist? Are they part of the same truth? Do you remember the conquest of Argentina by the Europeans in the 19th? Or the conquest of South Africa by the Boers ?
Therefore, Savagery seems to fight against Civilisation. Red Dust wanted to deter Cobbs (The Savagery) from attaining Comanche and her growing ranch (the Civilisation), could it be possible? What is the cost?
Finally, Justice seems to fight against Injustice but it does not. Stunning movie duels do not exist and reality highlights a less brightness world (referring when Red Dust killed a drunken and gun-free Cobbs), far from the ideal of justice... People consider their own perspective to approach life, they decide to judge by their own and revenge appears to be the only way...
The drawing style of Hermann traduce those tremendous efforts to live in a world where contradictions are part of your day-to-day life: the clair-obscur style is not dominant, Hermann showcases a more complicated pallet to express the cynicism of our world: we have to consider a strong yellow dark red or a bright white grey or a deep blue-green to understand what freedom means...Freedom is not the ideal of White Justice but a subtle combination of objective and subjective considerations where the Good could be Bad and Bad could help to create a better world... Herman and Greg would like their audience capture Dust's root acting cause: To defend the innocent? To honour a promise? To save Comanche's ranch? Or to simply save the relents of freedom?
And what about the root acting cause of the Human Being?
To go beyond the stars: I offer you to watch "And for a few dollars more" of Sergio Leone. Personal and Collective considerations are again the protagonists as well as Freedom and Restraints...A must-have movie to nurture our human being knowledge!
