The Apollo 12 mission was the second trip to the lunar surface and continued to leave a deep mark on the Space Adventure lifeline of our century...But have you heard about a museum in this iconic place? NO?
Do not panic!
In reality, this is a small ceramic wafer, a kind of tiny ceramic tiles, located on the leg of the Intrepid lander module left on the moon by the Apollo 12 astronauts, onto which drawings by six emblematic Pop Art artists of the period were inscribed.
This time was the advent of the Pop Art movement : using serigraphy and acrylic to reproduce images from the consumption society, the Pop Art players wanted to consider those images as pieces of art, hyping again figures while the context was dominated by the abstraction movement whose purpose was mainly captured by a tiny group of highly educated people. This was considered as a mass art movement.
On this wafer, Myers contributed the drawing at the lower left with a complex form. Warhol drew his initials. In the top center is a line by Rauschenberg; to its right is a black square by Novros and a diagram by Chamberlain, both modeled on circuitry diagrams, and in the lower centre is a sketch of Mickey Mouse by Oldenburg.
